3 New Breakthroughs in Animal Repellents

Animals pests, both large and small, can become a major nuisance in your yard and garden. They eat plants, ruin landscaping, and may cause expensive damage to your home. These concerns have motivated research into new types of animal repellents that homeowners can use to rid their property of bothersome pests. Some recent breakthroughs in animal repellents use safe, natural substances that have proven to be effective.

1 – Essential Oils Create Confusing Scents

Some animal repellent makers are now using essential oils and the scents they produce to keep animals away. An additional benefit to repellents made with essential oils is that they smell quite pleasant to people. By combining mint, cloves, rosemary, cinnamon, and other scents, repellent makers are able to develop a spray product that confuses animals and wards them off without causing them any harm.  Shake-Away Mouse Repellent is an example of animal repellent product that uses essential oils.

The main advantages of repellents made with essential oils are that they do not wash away easily with rain or snow and are safe for pets and children. This method is ideal for folks who want to keep pests away from their homes without using potentially dangerous chemicals.

2 – Capsaicin and Benzoate Tablets

Capsaicin is the chemical found in chili peppers that gives them their hot taste. Researchers have been able to isolate this chemical and use it to stop animals from eating plants that are part of home landscaping.

One way capsaicin can be used is in tablet form. After inserting the tablet into the soil near a plant’s roots, the chemical is absorbed into the plant over the course of 2-3 weeks. Once the repellent has been spread throughout the plant it can remain active for up to a year.

The simplicity of this repellent makes it a real breakthrough. Instead of applying an external repellent to plants, this method works from the inside of a plant. Deer, rabbits, feral cats, and other pests will not be interested in eating plants that contain this spicy chemical.

A similar approach is taken with Denatonium benzoate, which has been described as one of the bitterest substances in existence. It is introduced into plants through slow release tablets placed in the soil. This gives the plants a strong, bitter taste that repels deer, skunks, mice, rabbits, and other pests.

3 – Predator Urine Scents

Another breakthrough that uses natural scents to protect your yard and garden has led to the development of Shake Away Animal Repellents. These repellents use the scent of predator urine to scare away deer, rabbits, skunks, and other pests that can wreak havoc on your plants.

They are easy to use, safe for people and pets, and last much longer than chemical based spray-on repellents. Granules or packets containing these scents can be spread around the plants you want to protect from pest animals. The strong scent will scare animals away and ensure that your garden continues to grow beautifully.

Modern breakthroughs in animal repellents have made it easier and safer than ever before to protect your garden from pests. Take advantage of the latest repellent products to defend your home and yard from animal invaders.
